The white silver morar sands just north of Arisaig on the west coast of Scotland

The White Sands of Morar with the islands of Eigg and Rum in the background.

Halfway between Arisaig and Mallaig, stop and admire the beautiful Morar estuary, a huge expanse of gleaming sand at low tide and a beach walker's ideal. Observe in passing the sheer weight of water pouring into the estuary from the falls of Morar, fed by the shortest river in the United Kingdom (just a quarter-mile long). Loch Morar, over 1000 feet deep, is Scotland's and one of Europes deepest lakes and provides a lovely walk along its northern shores with vast vistas of loch and mountain scenery. Legend has it that "Morag", perhaps a relative of "Nessie", lurks in its depths.
